Need advice on how to reduce sheen on shellac

I have recently refinished some of the casings and crown within my 1820'a home after it sustained water damage. After playing around with different finished I ended up using a custom stain and finishing with amber shellac to achieve a close match to the original hue/color. However my original trim has s very low sheen. I have read about a product called shellac flat but can't seem to find many reviews or pros/cons. I also read about using steel wool and wax. The crown is not flat and has proven to be difficult to sand between coats without rubbing stain off the edges. Any advice would be appreciated as I can't seem to find anyone in the local hardware stores with experience with this. Thanks

0000 steel wool and wax should work fine as long as you go very easy and don't cut thru the shellac .Shellac does not have a lot of build.Be very careful on corners.

Or you could topcoat it with something else with a flattening agent in it but would probably not get the results you want without a lot of experimenting.

I currently have 3 brushed on coats of shellac. Is that enough to try polishing?

I like the sheen of 0000 steel wool and wax (I do them sequentially, but I guess you could do it in one go--I'd worry that the wax would make it hard to see missed spots. You can also use a white scotchbrite pad, which is even less aggressive.
