I would advice to go for a newer improved variety of mango. Personally i like the big mango's who are more then 1 kg.

Keep in mind that the big names are not always the best mango's for a backyard. They were selected for commercial properties like a long shelf life.

Chocanon for example isn't the best mango of all (it ain't bad though) but it is famous for fruiting offseason. If there aren't any mango's around then sure i'm happy with a chocanon.

See how large they are, but there are some who grow untill 2.5 kg.

Okrong and Chocanan i wouldn't grow for their taste, then i like Yu-wen more.

May favorit mango is still namdocmai green but under that name it's hard to find in the usa. The green one tastes sweeter then the golden namdocmai.

You can grow them all and make a cocktail mangotree. That;s what i did as well.

Jesse, why don't you try with Egyptian varieties (Mesk Eewees, Succari, etc.) or Pakistani or North Indian varieties (Dusheri, etc.). They all grow in desert land, and have rich indian taste.

Lemon Zest, Edward & Carrie in that order. If you still want more consider Maha Chanok, Coconut Cream & Sweet Tart. Lemon Zest seems to win all the surveys now for best flavor. I've heard it compared to a PPK flavor bomb on steroids.
