QOTD Houzz!
We have been with Houzz now for a few months.
What do you like? What do you miss?
It seems to be working well and we even have some new members. So that is a bonus.
Easy picture attaching and linking too.
One thing I miss is the info on each member's page, such as when joined, and the ability to email from there. Not that I use those features often but they are handy. If they are there, Ihaven't seen them.
As an example, Calliope stopped posting last fall and I missed her but I was able to get her email address there and sent her a note. Right now, I miss Kate but have no way to contact her.
Anyway, early morning ramblings!

Theresa, I miss Kate, too! And Bobby and others we haven't heard from in a while.
I guess I like it okay. Seems like activity has slowed greatly. And I have to say I really hate the name! I've always had a pet peeve about spelling things incorrectly on purpose.

yup, yup...I miss Kate, too...but I do know she is okay, but very busy with Life, at the moment! As far as this houzz thingy?? hmm....I'm still not real comfortable, but refuse to give up! At least we can still communicate...and y'all are my go-to kids for quilting info!

I feel like an old friend is gone never to return. As most of you know, I was at GW even before the quilting forum was born......I can't give up, even though it isn't the same. Some things are easier and some things are not..... I'm still here, but not as often. It was Spike's decision and that has to be taken into consideration.....did you know he has written a few mysteries and has had them published?
I think there are enough of us who have email addys of most of us old-timers, or know us beyond the forum, that if there is something serious going on, contacts would be made.......at least I hope so.

Well, this is my first time on. I was trying months ago to get on and nothing was working. I signed up and re-signed up and still could not get access to the site. I also had to re-register under another name...I was lilypad22 before and it wouldn't accept that name. Then today I thought, I'll just try one more time before I give up and forget it and when I typed in Gardenweb because I forgot the new name of the site, it sent me right to the houzz webpage and I was already signed in too. I'm thinking maybe some others had trouble like I did and gave up. Not sure I like the new format here, but I'll give it a try. I mostly read posts and don't comment too often. Haven't been quilting in awhile, busy helping with quick-easy charity quilts and project Linus sewing. tish

Thank you for trying again, Tish. Please feel free to post about the charity quilts you're doing......I'm sure I'm not the only one who likes quick-easy patterns and likes to see pictures. Are you sewing something besides quilts for Project Linus?

I have had some issues with the new format but I think things are getting better. Like that I get notifications on my e-mail of post that I have been active in. Took me awhile to understand things.

I've not had issues with houzz, so far so good for me. But I too have noticed that activity seems to be down, I'll include myself in that as well. I will assume it's part of the ebb and flow of things. I think it great to see new names popping up now and then...A hearty Welcome!
Perhaps if we all pitch in we can get some activity stirring again! I've finish one top and one quilt, I'll try to post over the weekend.
I do know Kate has a lot on her plate at this time and will pass on your sentiments....

I would like to be able to find old posts easily. For instance: if I know a specific member made a post about 'xyz' approximately # months ago, it would be very nice to check just that members posts. (Some other forums offer that and it is very useful.)

I figure the weather might be responsible for the forum not jumping with activity. People are outside playing in the dirt and/or on vacations. I'm not an outdoorsy type, so weather doesn't come into it for me.

I am getting along but if I close it out, I have a darn time trying to figure out how to log back in. Maybe it will get easier with time.
Me too....about getting back on. My computer apparently remembered my password from months agao when I was re-registering but now I am not sure what it was. Hoping I can find where I wrote it down. As I couldn't get onto the site, I may have just not kept the password.
I've been up and down the east coast since May, vacation, family, and also gardening. So I'm not quilting and sewing very much at all and won't be for the next couple months. But I'll check in now and then and when I start the sewing up again, I'll post a couple pictures.
Our Project Linus group mostly needs the fleece blankets. No sew ladies, use one layer of fleece and make the fringe, cutting a small hole in the top of the fringe and pull it thru. Sewing ladies like me fold over a 1/2 to 1" edge and then sew a decorative stitch. We only use one layer here because two layers would be too warm. I also love variegated threads. I hem flannel for receiving blankets...I make mine a little bit larger than the 36" wide (because when my daughter had her baby shower she recevieved a lot of flannel blankets that were too small to be used longer than 1 or 2 months, so I want the ones I sew to have a longer use time). Then also sew quilts to cover incubaters, but they want them 60" square now to cover better. I also sew children quilts for a local church group who take them on mission trips. nannykins
Original Author11 years agoSo we are all muddling along, not overly thrilled with the new format, but we are still together and we will survive.
The saying about lemons and lemonade could be applied here.
When life hands you Houzz, make a quilt.
Thanks for all your replies.

One thing I still have not gotten used to...when I click Submit I keep waiting for something to happen! LOL I usually scroll back to the top and click the Quilting link. I know the back arrow will take me back to the list of posts, but I just have too many years of computer use behind me to think clicking the back button won't undo what I just did. :)

Several of the items people have mentioned can be done with the new site. If you click on some ones name, there is a "Message" button on the top right side to message the person.
If you had to register a new user name, under "Your Houzz" is an Edit Profile button. Profile Information allow one to put down a first name. In this area, one can put their old user name and that is what appears on the threads.
Google for an old thread. Gardenweb username quilting forum, etc will bring up old threads.
Hope some of these are useful. - 11 years ago
Theresa, I just sent you a message from the message button. I clicked on your name and there was a button over to the right. I had to make my font smaller so it would show on my page without scrolling to the right though. But, there it was!

I wonder if it has to be the person that started the thread that only has it showing. That's weird.

Original Author11 years agoMessage received Sharon. Thanks,
I am wondering if follower and following are the keys. If i follow you and you follow me, then maybe we can message. Maybe!

Original Author11 years agoI went to the Houzz site of FAQ to check this out and it seems that each member in their advanced settings has to allow messages to be received.
And because I had checked that box, you were able to send me a note.
One more mystery solved!

I think I am getting the hang of Houzz, but I do get more spam messages than I used to. Yesterday there were 10 duplicate posts in Chinese.
beverly - 11 years ago
Hi Beverly,
We have had a run of spam lately, but if you click the little flag in the top corner of the post, you can report it and hide it at the same time. Spam is removed very quickly, but if something slips through and you are still seeing it, just drop me a note.
Thanks!

Thanks, Tamara. I usually just ignore strange posts, never know what may be lurking in them.
