I'm reupholstering a rocker that's been in my family over 65 years. It doesn't need to be stripped just restored with the arms faded in color. The rest of the finish is about the same color though where the rocker meets the floor is bare wood. I've done the various solvent tests. Laquer thinner and acetone each removed color on the q-tip but the spots didn't get gummy. So is it varnish, shellac, or laquer?
