What's wrong with the granite and backsplash? I think they look fine. I would take down the wallpaper and repaint a soft apricot color.

Nothing we just had the granite and backsplash done. Now moving to the paint. Do you think the cabinets are OK are is?

The rest of the house is the same color with the exception of wall directly behind kitchen in living it is a faux orange and were wanting to paint that as well seen in pictures below. I am trying to move away from traditional so yes defintely wallpaper coming down. We are replacing the couch, chair and art similar to below.

I would not paint the cabinets as the grain will still show through. I would, however, for a less traditional look, purchase large, wide, weighty, at least 5 - 6-1/2" long, nickel or stainless handles for the cabinets. You would be surprised that your eye goes to them, and it changes the "feel" of the traditional cabinets. Something like this:

Because there are a lot of browns/tans/golds in your furnishings, I would not look at any of those shades. Look, maybe, at some gray blues, and gray greens. BUT before you do that, if you don't want to replace your furniture yet, I would first look for a patterned more contemporary rug for your sofa area that is NOT predominately brown. Look for something colorful that includes reds, blues, greens, blacks, etc., but limited beige/browns. After you find a rug, choose some colorful pillows for the sofa area that will work with your new rug. The pillows should "pop" and give life to this space along with the new rug. OR purchase your new furniture & rugs & accessories. THEN look for a paint colors based on colors that may be in your new rug and furnishings. The paint color could be a more pale shade of a color in the rug. These items can be quite inexpensive. Now when you look at paint colors, buy samples and paint them on poster boards, or "paint test" paper available in some paint departments. Use these to tape onto walls to look at in daylight and lamp light. Look at them on different walls. Color is all about how light hits it. This is how you select a paint color...always last. I hope this helps.

The above were suggestions to show where I would put color & pattern. Just looking again at your art piece and the reddish color looks more terracotta, if that is true, then I would look at the chair in terracotta as well. Also, I would maybe choose it to be a single chair and not the chair & a half...but you know your space better than I do. Use additional colors from the art piece, including black and ALL the colors for large geometric patterned pillows for on the sofa & chair.

We are trying to replace the seating we had with our existing sectional and afraid single chair would not be sufficient. Also been searching for recliner but havent found one yet. Have purchased a couple of pillows but still looking for more. One is blue other yellow.

Is there a good online tool I can use to determine how many and what size pieces to select? My living area is 17x18 and the sofa we purchased is 93".
