I have 2 raised garden beds that I put in this year. They are about 19 inches high, 4 feet wide and 6 and 7 feet long. For watering I placed soaker hoses - ran it up and down each box 4 times, the soaker hoses in each box are not connected they are 2 different soaker hose systems.

Up until now I have just been turning on the hoses until the soil on the top looks wet and when I put my finger in the soil it's wet (the soaker hose is laying on the top). This can take 40+ minutes to achieve and I have been doing it daily. By the next day I can't find any moisture when I stick my finder in the soil. Recently I wanted to switch to a more deep watering schedule and just water once to twice a week i.e. 1 - 1 1/2 inches of watering/rain fall each week. So, to measure how much I was giving currently I stuck a can under a section of the hose with a mark at 1". 15 minutes later it is filled to 1 1/2 to 2 inch!

I feel like there is no way I could water for 15 minutes 1-2x per week and not have my plans shrivel up and die.....my tomatoes and broc already look like they are wilting a bit some days prior to watering.

Suggestions???
