I just bought a 1948 post war brick cape. We are painting it Martha Stewarts kalamata olive with charcoal trim. We are also Adding a second story dormer that will have shaker shingle for siding. Painted brick over boring red brick is far more exciting. Go for it. I live in a trendy neighborhood of Nashville and people paint brick all day.

One thing to think about when painting brick, is that you can never go back. It's virtually impossible to remove the paint. If it is interior brick, think about covering it with rock veneer to get a different look.

I know thank goodness cause our house is as boring as watching paint dry. :)

I like both in different situations. However, since you are doing new construction I would not paint it. There are so many color options in brick that you could try- not just the red brick. We currently have red brick and I love it but we also had a pale tan brick at another home and a slightly greenish brick at another.

What color is your current brick. I think this makes a huge difference in the decision you make.
If it's a beautiful color brick, I would keep it. However, if it's a very dated feeling bring, paint it! This can easily add a great new look to your curb appeal. However, if you do not maintain it proper, you may get that shabby look that doesn't look chic.

I have a feeling you picked a great looking brick since it's new construction.
