Common sedge?

Is there any virtue to letting the sedge stay in my flower and veggie beds? If I let it grow, will it keep other weeds down? It seems they pop up all over every time the earth is disturbed (cultivated, raked, turned over, weeded, etc.) At least the tall skinny leaves are not so offensive visually in the garden, compared to other lower growing broad leaf weeds. They blend in with the likes of other tall greenery - irises, glads, zinnias, salvia, plus the tall vegs like peppers and tomatoes. And it really blends in at the base of the ornamental grasses. It's easy enough to pull up with the shallow roots but it's constant and tiring. Or just let it be natural and call it a fake tall "ornamental" grass? I was trying to see if it would get crowded out as the other plants grew but doesn't look like it. I've lived here over 20 years and only started seeing it all over my established flower and veg beds the past couple years. Don't know where it came from. I'm in 7b.
