They can be drilled out, taking care not to bore all the way through the wood. I'd start with a drill bit about 1/16" larger than the visible hole and then try the pliers again.

This, of course destroys the insert, so how do you plan to reinstall the hinges? It might be best to paint around them since the hinge should cover them when installed.

I might just take your advice and paint around them. I already did a set of bathroom vanities but someone else did the prep work; I am not sure all the doors had them in the bathrooms. I didn't use them when putting the hinges back on in those rooms. Anyway, thank you for the suggestions. :)

OMIGOSH! @Sombreuil thank you SO much for your suggestion about the screw. Barely screwed a screw into the plastic dowel, and popped it out with the claw of a hammer. Took me all of 2 minutes for 4 hinges.
