Updating Split Foyer Entry...

Here are some before and after shots of our foyer update.

We had all the wood floors and stairs refinished (jacobean), installed a new slate tile landing, painted the stair risers white, changed the wall colors to blue and white (formerly green and cream put in by previous owners) and changed out door hardware and old brass lighting for nickel.

We are still waiting for the plantation shutters we ordered for the sidelights to come in and the brass lantern will be swapped out for a nickel drum shade chandelier.

Thoughts?

Looks great, big improvement. I would think about changing out the stair railing if/when budget allows.

Thanks everyone! I added a porcelain umbrella stand to the left of the door. We have a coat closet so no need for a coat hanger. I'm trying to encourage clutter staying out of the foyer. :)

The stair rail is definitely on the list. Just trying to figure out what to replace it with. Thoughts?

Light color door opens up the entry. Nice wall sconces. Use a low watt bulb.

Perhaps something like one of these would not only enhance your entryway, work well with the stairs and risers and be a bit more friendly to the budget.....also remove the old ones carefully and sell them or use them on an outside project....

Blue is not my favorite color so I probably would not have done blue walls but obviously you like blue and you did a nice job. Sometimes photos don't tell the truth. I always do a more grey blue. Rather than a pale, or baby sky blue. Absolutely change out your railing, sooner than later. Then you can call it done. I don't know what people ever saw in the wrought iron railings. Any railing with white spindles and stained banister is a marked improvement. Whether inexpensive or one of the more expensive options. So much better than what you have existing.

Thanks everyone! Yes, we definitely like blue! :) I think that there are people who like color in their homes and others who like neutrals more. We are definitely people who like color. My next project is the dining room and we're doing navy above the chair rail (white wainscoting below) and white plantation shutters on the windows. I can't wait to paint this weekend!

Beautiful job. The colors are simply refreshing and welcoming. Can't wait to see the dining room. I've done several in dark blue but this one is my all time favorite. Keep up the good work!

I'd love any advice on the next space I'm tackling - the living room adjacent to this foyer.

Here's the thread I started if you have any opinions you can share:

take a picture of your entry light when you come through the front door looking up the light will be less glaring and I'll get to see it better. You're doing a good job so far.
