Ligustrum trees dying! Need help!

I have 7 ligustrums planted. They were planted two years ago. They were green and shiny until a few months ago. I did notice this year they did not bloom. Two have already died completely. The other five seem to get worse every day. I've tried root stimulator and plant food as suggested by a local nursery.

The leaves are very light green and some are yellow. Some leaves do have black spots. However the nursery said that's fairly common in this shrubs.

Generally where are you?

Did you use weed and feed on the lawn?

I live in New Orleans. Yes I used weed and feed in maybe March. Do you think that is causing them to die?

I wouldn't be surprised if the "weed" part of the W& F is the problem. Your lawn goes right up to the Ligustrums, and the "weed" is an herbicide for broadleafed (not grass) plants. So the Ligustrums are taking up the herbicide. I don't know if they will survive or not but in the future, avoid using the W & F near shrubs or perennial beds. I am of the view that in general a lot of what Scotts Co. and similar Cos. tell you about lawn care is unnecessary, but that is just my opinion.
