Is that even legal?! Sorry, but not understanding your posting, pretty sure sneaking plants into a foreign country is illegal. Now, mind you, I am a plant (particularly PALM) NUT, but Washingtonia filifera?! Really, are they worth it?! They are readily available, and even from SEEDS grow like WEEDS!! Try ordering some starter palms or seeds on eBay and avoid the drama and intrigue. As long as you summer climate is warm to hot, Washingtonias grow FAST...even from seed!

thank you for The response, i cheked with The goverment and they said it was okey to bring up to five plants with Me, and i did! Now its planted happiøy in a pot outside my enterance door. But next time i probably go for the seeds!

Washingtonia are particularly easy from seed. They will germinate at room temperature (72 F.), while most palms require bottom heat and soil temperatures of 80-95F. Most of my Washingtonias are either robustas or 'filibuster' (a hybrid)...pure filiferas are not generally available on the East coast because they tend to really resent high summer heat and humidity (most of our tropicals coming out of Florida). Filifera though is considered cold hardier but slower growing than the other varieties I mentioned. Good luck!

how hot does the summer need to be when growing whashingtonias? I grow trachycarpus fortunei, champero hummils, tons of small canary island palms,(In pot), two phoenix robeleniis (in pot).The trachycarpus has never been greener! And the summer temps has only been from 15-20 Celsius! The summers here are quite cold (around 20 degrees in July) and its about 10 rain days every month.

Well, Trachys are known to actually prefer cool weather. Here, they actually slow or stop growth in high summer and resume growth in the autumn. Not sure what Washys require to grow but our average daily summer highs are around 30 celsius (86 F.) and they grow just fine.
