My home has 8 ft ceilings and 5 1/4" base throughout, but with 3 1/4" casings. Whether the 5 1/4" base looks right with your casing is subjective. I suggest you purchase a piece of the base you are considering and install a small piece of it next to casing as a "mock up." Then you can judge whether it looks appropriate.
