Need help measuring for cabinet doors

I posed this on woodworking, but thought I might get more help here. I'm changing out doors on face frame cabinets and increasing the overlay to 1 inch. How do I measure to accommodate for the space needed for the doors to close? Is there enough adjustment in the hinge and I just add the inch all around? I understand double doors, but not where single doors butt up. Do I need to subtract a 1/4 inch?

How much gap do you want between the doors? Make sure you choose hinges that allow for 1" overlay.

That's the dilemma- how much gap do I have to have? I want the doors and drawers to cover as much of the stiles and rails as possible. Blum makes a 1 inch overlay hinge for face frame cabinets so that's no problem. But when I order for 19" openings and the cabinets butt together do I order 21" and adjust from the hinges or do I take and 1/8 of an inch off the door?

It depends entirely on which hinges you choose as to how much clearance is needed between doors.

One run of 3 cabinets is my concern, each hinges to it's own stile and they all open the same direction. The stiles are each 2 in. If I understand correctly I will need 3/4 overlay hinge on these to allow for them to open and the gap will be 1/2. So I would add 1 1/2 inches total to the door size?
