Move or take cuttings from an azalea

We're in the process of selling our parents' home and we'd like to move a part of an old azalea. It was a gift to our grandmother from her future son-in-law over 60 years ago and has s lot of sentimental value. It's about 4' across and 3' tall and blooms for Memorial Day every year. I haven't had much luck with cuttings so far, but I'm probably doing it wrong. Can we dig up a part of it and transplant it? My experience is all with houseplants. Hope this post isn't too wordy.
