yes, the only time i'd use a valance now is in hyper-traditional rooms with tall windows screaming (to me, anyway) for formal window treatments. otherwise, roman shades or panels only are the way to go.

I happen to like a valance in certin instances this pic is my LR and I think the valance just finished off the wall of drapes.I do agree a little more info would be helpful.
