They make a small U-shaped file, same diameter as the blade, that does the trick. I got mine at the local Ace hardware. Or, depending on the brand, you can buy replacement blades for them. Check lehmans.com and I also see replacement blades on ebay for at least 3 different brands although some of the new peeler/corers aren't much more than the blades cost.

If all else fails any local tool sharpener or a place that sharpens chainsaw blades should be able to do it as the files used are almost identical.

My DH says that sharpening this little tool is not worth the effort (he is expert) or the expense of a professional sharpener's price. He went to the Dollar Tree store and bought a new one for $1, actually he bought 5 of them. When one gets dull, toss in the recycle bin, and use a new one.

Here's a picture of my apple peeler. It is one of those gizmos that peels, cores and slices the apple all at the same time. The coring part is not dull, just the peeling part. I can't figure out why because I always wash and dry it right after using. I am lost without it, I make applesauce all the time!

I can't read the brandname on the box but most of these models are the smae regardless. These replacement blades should work on that model.

Duh. I thought you were asking about a potato peeler, not the crank apple peeler, that's why my comment on the dollar store peelers. As an alternative option to buying a new blade, you might be able to take it off and turn it upside down and put it back on giving you a new sharp edge. One of my apple peelers works that way, one does not.

Well, at that price $6.40 for two, I can probably afford to get new ones and recycle the old one. Sort of like what Nancy said, at this point not worth the effort to sharpen. I have tried all kinds of ways to sharpen my knives and I'm not particularly good at it anyway. I used to do cooking demos with antique cooking utensils. Odd how the 80 year old apple peeler still worked and the newer ones only keep their edges a couple of years!
