Hi guys! A friend of mine gave me this little guy and it was in a plastic container. I took it out to repot and the soil was dry and like concrete. I soaked the roots to remove as much of old soil as possible and will repot in gritty mix tomorrow when dry.

My question was the base of cactus is a fleshy color and somewhat softer than the rest. Is that due to lack of sun? Lack of water? Do the roots look good? possible ID? Thanks for the help guys! Im still new to cactus but reading up quick!
