I do not think they need to match. I was in a Parade Home last year that had white kitchen cabinets and gray laundry room cabinets. My laundry has white, my kitchen wood.

I don't think laundry room cabinets need to match kitchen cabinets as long as there is an actual door between the two.

They don't need to match, some contrast would be good!
