My Sanidry was installed in 2012, and this past week, it was sitting in a puddle. I opened the cabinet up and no water was at the bottom of it, but I too did notice some rust particles throughout the base and and in the collector. The condensate collector is a v-shaped piece of metal that drains to a hole that leads to a plastic tube out of the cabinet; you're probably seeing the rust from the collector.

Do you have a condensate pump on the side of your Sanidry? If so, I'd check that a) the pump still works and b) that the connection to it is not where your leak is.

As for taking apart - can't say. I opened the cabinet from the front by removing the screws holding the front panel on. I've asked different techs from my HVAC company if they would service it and they all looked at it like it had the plague saying I'd have to call the installer to service it (service = as in routine maintenance). My response to them is that the installer will never-ever step foot in my home again...

FYI: I don't know if opening up the cabinet voids your warranty (I'm sure it is written somewhere that it will), but it sounds like you will never let your installer into your home again as well, if you're looking to take it apart yourself...

Thanks James. I do not have a condensate pump, the Sanidry just drains by gravity into a hose pipe that goes to the sump pump well. The warranty has expired, so I will open it up like you did and have a look. Also I have the impression that it is not working as well as it did originally, but I need to get a hygrometer and actually check the volume of water produced over time. Actually a couple of years ago we had 2 AC/hot hair ducts installed in the basement that are on a separate zone from the rest of the house, and this is working well this summer (without the Sanidry operating at all), but I am not sure how efficient this will be in the spring when we may well need heat upstairs and use AC (to lower humidity) in the basement.

I opened the unit, and found quite a substantial accumulation of rust particles in the V-shaped collector. The collector itself appears to be in good condition, so the rust must be in the condensate that drips down into the collector. Maybe the rust blocks the outflow of water and the overflow inside leads to the wetness beneath the unit when it is running? I'm going to clean out the rust from the V-shaped collector and replace the plastic outflow tubing and see if that helps.

We removed the side panel, then the hose at the top. It was plugged solid with sediment. We used a small fish tape to loosen the sediment, then

blew it out. Ran bleach and water through the hose and reconnected everything. Should work like a charm. I can't post the pic but trust me it was nasty!

OMG you guys saved me posting this. I just unclogged my exit tube. My wife had the brilliant idea of plunging it with a turkey baster and I used bleach water, Cleared it right up!! Thanks!
