Parrots have so much personality. I'm sure he is a wonderful companion, smart too! Did you get him in a pet shop? We actually have wild parrots here in So. Calif. They squawk a lot, and certain times of the year 100 or more will gather together and have a real loud gab fest!

I have a white dove who doesn't have a name. He (she?) must be about 15 years old. Our climate allows him (her?) to be outside quite a lot. His outside cage is a lot bigger, a former rabbit hutch.

I got Joey directly from the breeder. I live in SoCal too - South Orange County. I have heard a lot about the wild parrots, but have never seen them.

Are not the "wild" parrots of Socal domesticated parrots that have either escaped or set free? Just curious.

Salti--there are various theories about how the parrots got to So. CA. One that lingers is that a pet store caught fire and birds escaped. Maybe people who got tired of them as pets released them....no one knows for sure. I wondered if they migrated up from Mexico, but if they are not living in Orange County, which is closer to Mexico than "parrot central" where we are, maybe not.

I think the birds were originally escaped pets, or ones that people let go, but they have been breeding well in the wild, so the population is increasing.
