We did a gut renovation last year but didn't know what we wanted to do for the backsplash and hood cover, so we left them unfinished.

We've decided on a one piece tempered glass backsplash with the back finished to match the wall since my husband and boys love to cook but I don't love to clean.

I'm struggling with the hood cover though. I thought we might frame out either the full width or the center 2' and cover it with the same stone as the fireplace since it's an open floor plan with a double sided fireplace in the middle, but the outside of the hood gets greasy pretty fast and I'm afraid the stone above might also be exposed to grease (and since it's ledgestone would be impossible to clean). Maybe I'm being paranoid.

It's a 48" Thermador hood and I really would prefer not to have more stainless steel, but that seems the most practical cover. The problem is the ceiling is sloped so from the top front to the ceiling it's ~21" and in the back it's only 18". Would I have to get someone to create a custom one? Can I get one that's only 24" wide so it's not as visually imposing?

I guess the other (and cheapest) option is to frame it out, drywall, and paint to match. This would match the backsplash and blend in more. (I'm not trying to make the stove area a focal point).
