I'd start by painting the front door a different color and adding a bench to the right of the door. I don't know if this is too much color for you, but it would look great with your siding. This is BM gulf stream and it does look rich in a darker area.

A much lighter colored door, a larger mat, can't tell if you have large lanterns on either side of door, and something decorative like urns and birch. Might also be an idea to paint the frame of the window to the left the same color as the door.

I would consider trimming out the door with a complimentary trim to add some width. The door needs a larger presence. I would change the color, possibly red, and add two planters, one on either side of the door with boxwood. If budget allows you could replace the existing door with a windowed larger door. This could bring in more light to this area and give more interest to the exterior. If budget is tight, I would just paint the door and add flanking planters.

Like the paint, bench, planters suggestions. Definitely want substantial lighting to fight the effect of the covered entry -- either a hanging light from the peak overhead or two large sconce lanterns on either side of the door. Larger (and more colorful!) mat too.
