undermount sink with lamanite counter top

I really want an undermount sink but a laminate countertop is my budget. Karran sinks has a quartz series that can be used with Wilsonart HD laminate ..This is what I'm considering but would like to read reviews/comments from those who might have done the same. Thanks for your help.

We just installed our first (and last) undermount sink with laminate countertop. Home owner is complaining and has already either melted or gouged out the Karran acrylic sink. Can't tell yet if the undermount in laminate is going to span the test of time. I feel like a stainless sink would work better.

Deborah, thanks much for your reply. Since I definitely do not want stainless, I've also been considering a granite drop-in sink (ugh!) by either Swan or Blanco with the laminate. I just have to talk myself into it.

I also would avoid the Karran acrylic sink. Their stainless sink is nice, but, I don't have any experience with it in a laminate countertop. What don't you like about stainless?

Laminate and undermount is still unreliable. And expensive. You might be surprised at how inexpensive granite has become though. Many times the quotes for a Group A granite are only a few dollars different than an upgraded laminate. It could even be cheaper if you had them price an undermount in laminate. It's almost 3x the pice of doing an undermount in granite here.

I'd get a quote for granite, too, although there isn't anything wrong with laminate. The cost of a Karran sink and the install in laminate is comparable to the equivalent in granite.

I used to be a designer at the HD in Lancaster, PA and I'm basing what I said on their pricing. Good luck with whatever you do!

Grace & Sophie, really appreciate your comments/suggestions..

regarding stainless - guess i've seen too many redos with it and want something different ... love the dark brown sinks.

My cost for the Wilsonart HD laminate/Karran Quarts sink installed is 1158. I feel granite would be overkill for the this kitchen and again, it seems almost every time someone does a redo granite is used. I guess i'll check into granite with the countertop guy anyway ... or i'll think again on the other alternative of a drop-in sink, from Swan or Blanco, with the laminate.
