To be clear, please stay away from "laminate" in a kitchen. Laminate floors are not recommend for kitchens and often have enough problems that they need replacing by year 3 (elsewhere they are fine...they don't like kitchens and will require some sort of intervention before they hit 7 years old).

A vinyl plank would be far more appropriate. A cork floor would also work.

The trick is to get the gray undertones to work. You may have been dealing with a clash of undertones when trying to work "darker". That's common when working with grays. Getting the tones right is 90% of the battle.

I would take a cabinet door with you as you go floor shopping. Grab some samples to take home with you to view in your LIGHTING!!! You will be horribly surprised at how much your personal lighting will affect the look of the two grays together.

Thankfully grays and "white washed" wood-look products are all the rage. You should be able to find something in the next 3-6 months (each dealer will take time to get into the "gray groove" as their suppliers bring out more and more grays).
