A tv is not a focal point. The fp is only.

I believe you can work with a couch/chair combo or small sectional. I would definitely float the furniture (similar to what is there already). There is often a tug of war with the TV location (I'm not against a TV over a mantel). However, in this case, I think keeping the tv on the wall (with a longer media console underneath) works better bc you can use the mantel for a fabulous piece of art that will tie your furniture and accessories together. Also, it will be the first thing to catch your guest's attention when they walk in the door.

People have tv and they like to have a furniture arrangement that allows them to watch their tv. Yes a FP is the main structural vocal point in the room, but HOs don't usually sit and watch their FP for several hours. I don't have all the measurements, but I would arrange the room like this

Put the TV on a corner cabinet by nook, leave walkway to stairs on the right along stair wall. Sofa facing FP & TV and chairs on right. Small table and lamp on rt of FP and large rd ottoman. Get a dimmer switch for ceiling fan light or better yet, replace it with great chandelier with dimmer. That allows being in kitchen to see living room and not be isolated from people in LR when in kitchen. Not sure how big your TV is but appears to be able to fit in corner. Get roman shades for windows for shutting down light when TV is on and open for daylight. Be sure to measure area when buying sofa and chairs to make sure they fit in area and are scale to room.

This console fits in corner and hides (stores all you components).

I would re-think a sectional in that room. With a sofa and 2 chairs (like in my proposed plan), you will have more options for arranging the room.

I think you need less furniture, it looks crammed in there right now. I'd leave the TV where it is since above the fireplace is too complicated... I agree about a taller, longer and skinnier credenza. I'd put a normal 3 seat couch directly across from the TV and then to the side (opposite the fireplace) put one big oversized chair. Floating the furniture on a good size rug with a fun end table in between. I'd leave space to walk by the kitchen area like you already have and a space in front of the fireplace for direct access to the stairs. I don't have any fancy drawings.

P.S. Also, floor to ceiling panel curtains on both windows but that wasn't the question... Hehe

TV over mantle. Sofa and coffee table in front of FP, wing chairs or something comfy on either side. I would put a console table behind the sofa and another along the stairwell wall with lamp, etc. Beautiful room!

Just an fyi, there is no law against having backs of chairs or sofas to the FP and if it won't be used no problem. You do have a clear cut corner on the left of FP for the tv. Part of it will cut off the window but really a much better position for it than on the staircase wall. Covering half the window is IMO much better for the all around arrangement of having good viewing of the FP, the TV, and the kitchen area for everyone seated in the LR. They make very nice corner TV cabinets that will store everything and keep it organized.

how about an L-sectional placed in a similar position as your sofas now, and a backless settee type of piece in front of the fire place?

Put chair and table where the guitar is at now. That will open area. The chair can fit in front of the guitar.

Get rid of the T.V. It's an over rated device and it seems to be causing problems. Put in a small bookcase instead and do more reading.

This is a lovely room. It all depends what you plan on doing in it. How many people do you expect to be using it? Can you manage with less furniture? I always think that you should start with a rug that you really love (oriental) and then buy the furniture to match.

I think you have the TV on the right wall. Fireplaces are beautiful in their own right, whether they're used or not, and should be focal. You can arrange seating easily to view both.

I also have a bias against TVs in corners and in front of windows. If a TV needs to be angled for viewing, I much prefer it be hung on an articulating arm to be pulled out and pushed back when not in use. And a TV in front of a window not only blocks a source of light, but suggests that someone outside might see the back which should always be hidden.

Look for a media cabinet that fills the wall. Balance the TV with a plant and tall candlesticks on the left.

Do not put the tv over the fireplace! The big chair and ottoman should go. You have a beautiful home. The fireplace is beautiful, too. The art on the mantel not is not right. Have fun:)

You have a really nice great room. I'd probably lose the half wall between the living room and breakfast nook or create a curio / china cabinet with glass doors within it.

Avoid sectionals that limit your furniture placement. Avoid odd loungers and chairs without arms that are not really all that comfortable.
