Ooooooh. Are you talking about meconopsis? I've always heard they're a bit picky so have never tried the, but you don't know until you try, right? You really have me thinking about poppies now.

Another trick with this meconopsis if you buy plants is not letting them bloom the first year. I've grown them but they petered out on me 4 years down the road :(.

Annette - some will be sent, wink, wink, say no more!! They will be a mixed bag. I tried to mark my favs, but didn't note colour. The foliage got quite ratty, so they are all pulled and curing in the carport. Joyce had an Oriental lady come by and compliment us on the poppies - she grows them too. She said that she harvests green and then cures, so fingers crossed, this is what we have done. Joyce, btw, will love that suggestion for the blue poppies - she is a beheading queen in the garden. I am a little aghast sometimes when she is done!!

I am wondering about seed sources for these since all I have are the single pinkish-salmony colored ones with a purple blotch at the base. I love them, but would enjoy ones with a wider range of colors.

And don't feel any need to stop . . . they are gorgeous, both in form and in the combination of colors.

With this year of frequent rains my peony poppies have been gorgeous. I keep them deadheaded which keeps them blooming. Friday night we had severe winds so most of the bloom has disappeared but there are new buds so will see them again.

Sorry, no photos. That was on my list last Wednesday. Instead I had emergency back surgery and am now on house rest for two weeks. I see fresh blooms but can't even go out to deadhead for two weeks. Too many other plants for volunteers to deadhead so will let nature take its course on the poppies.

Most are double blossoms, bright pink, very deep purple black, and bright red. Some are fairly true to original 'Lauren's Grape', a single dark purple. Others are a very pale purple with a dark black center. Also have a perennial Iceland poppy that has tiny orange blooms. These are all from poppies that self seeded last year. I'd been pulling out some plants to keep colors in separate areas hoping seed would stay somewhat true to this year's bloom. Was surprised with the deep red peony poppies and would like to add that seed to my red bed this fall.

Bobbie, back surgery that wouldn't have been fun, take care of yourself and get well soon.

I'm with Annette - take care. Any surgery that has to do with bones is no fun. I will have to look at Peony poppies, that may be what I am calling 'fringed'. And yes, they are, so I have some brilliant red and I think I remember some pink. I bought pink seeds, anyway, over and above what had been saved!!

Wishing you quick and complete healing - emergency surgery is no fun. It must be frustrating being stuck on your back now, and I imagine limited mobility for a while. So nice you have volunteer helpers!

Thanks for the well wishes. I am in good spirits and catching up on reading and videos. We are preparing our home for sale and I have been letting go of some of my gardening intensity during the last year. Fortunately all the beds are well weeded and edges refined and had been continually deadheaded so things can slide a bit until I can get out to supervise.

Bobbie, good to hear that you are taking it easy. So hard to do, but so important after surgery! I am sorry you had to go through it, but oh-so-glad that you are relaxing and making the best of it! now, if you can stretch it out to avoid all the packing, that would be excellent! Just sit and direct. :-)
