Now I see others are getting rid of wicker or woven chairs to change for fabric on the other discussions. I will only be using four, as my old parsons chairs I'm thinking of using slip covers on them for extra chairs when needed.

It's really hard to say without seeing your actual table and nearby furniture. But, the chair does look nice. If the space is small with standard 8' ceilings, I do prefer a lower back on a chair though.

Probably for most people wicker chairs are not very comfortable. If this is a place that you don't sit at very often, I would say "yes buy them." If it is a place where you sit often and are looking for comfort and design. I would say "no."

I love the look of them, especially with the band of wood at the top. These chairs will be a little difficult to attach a cushion to the seat. You would have to Velcro the cushion to the top of the seat. There is nothing to use a seat that ties.

Slipcovers are great on upholstered chairs, because you still have the softness. Covering wicker, you will still have the hardness.

If you look in the picture at the cream upholstered chairs, that looks great with that table or an upholstered one with wood legs showing that is very simple and it won't over power the table.

Thank you, it does help! When I sat on the chairs in the store, they were comfortable. And really we only use them for family dinners now. Do you think I could tie a cushion around the back of the chair? I like the idea of Velcro. Would you use a white slipcover for the old chairs? Or cream. We use six to eight chairs when family is over, so we would be mixing the two chair sets together.

Perhaps a cushion with non slip material on the bottom would do the trick. Usually cream is better because it creates a softer look. It depends on what else is in the room. Do you have a rug or window treatment that you are working with? If so, that will probably determine whether to go cream or white.

No rug yet, waiting for an elderly dog to pass before getting new rugs. The curtains are rather darkish in the living room but won't be changed as my husband chose them and they are silk custom made..I'm thinking I will post a picture from the dinning room through to the living room. Maybe even gray cushions..I'll post a picture a little later. So are the wicker chairs already dated or do you think they will ad some nice texture to a house with a lot of leather furniture?

It would be most helpful to have a picture to look at. As far as the wicker chairs, follow your instinct! If you love them, think they are comfortable, and know that you will enjoy them for years to come, that is what really matters. It sounds like you have been looking for a long time. You may be able to return them if you do not like them once you see them in your home.

I might use a pair of these as "masters" chairs at the head and foot of the table, but I think they are quite boxy feeling and you'll end up with a similar dilemma to the Parson's chairs. What about using a bench on one side of your table?

How about getting just two of the wicker for the head chairs, then slipcover the others? You are right that the wicker will add a nice texture to the nearby leather. It won't look dated. (like your inspiration photo!)

Very nice Vangard! the dilemma is that I'm hoping to redesign the entire space in about eighteen months which means new furniture. So this is a short term fix. I need a refresh for this floor. I'm going to post some pics. I know you will all have some good ideas! I'm just cutting the tassels off the back of the chairs first..yes they have tassels..

Finally..here is a picture of the dinning table and decor we have now. I took the tassels off the back of the chairs and it made a huge difference. The table is pushed up against the wall when we don't use it because it's square and quite wide. We really need a narrow table for that space I think.

Since you like the table pushed closer to the wall, about a bench there instead? Then, just slipcover the current chairs for the other sides. That way, you could also relocate the chandelier above the table and it will be centered all of the time. You could do a bench seat with a back....

Now that I see the space, I say the wicker chairs will just add more dark. I like the shape of your parsons chairs. Slipcover them in cream; they'll look great.

I really like the chairs, you table needs brightening up with a runner and some white vases or candles etc, if you imaged a lighter rug under table later on it will look great. What about a big mirror on wall next to dining table

I think your chairs are too large scale for your space. Smaller scale parsons chairs, slipcovered in creamy white will visually not look so crowded. You can get some inexpensive ones at Cost Plus World Market.

Thank you everyone! Great ideas and confirmed a hunch I had on cream for the chairs instead of the wicker. I like the idea of the bench with a back and slip covered chairs. If I relocate the lighting and then when we use the table and move it out, will that be ok that it's then off centre? I have always struggled with that fixture placement. The wall behind the table will have an oil painting, likely light retangular abstract when the chairs are covered if I can get to it..

Perhaps Comfortworks could do slipcovers with attached seat cushion for the chairs to make the wicker more comfortable so to be able to sit longer at the table. I have my dining table as yours, pushed back from the center of my ceiling light fixture a bit and it doesn't look bad. Benches are uncomfortable with no back. Your chairs are better, especially with the higher backs IMO.
