The door in your inspiration picture has a lot of white framing. Can you incorporate that?

I love that idea, but I have no idea - there isn't much space to the left, but maybe even a little would help?

The screen door could be custom.

Doesn't look like you can add much in terms of white trim but you can get wood screen doors with similar detail to your inspiration. If not that then paint the storm door you have to match the inside door. So glad you painted trim around half moon window, so many people leave them white and it detracts from the door color.

I don't think painting the door is a bandaid; I just think you picked the wrong color. Remove the shutters and paint the door black or deep charcoal.

groveraxle... So, you don't like the shutters? Is there any design reason why - does it throw off the balance? We did consider painting a black door, but our neighbors have black so we wanted something different. Will it help at all when the landscaping yellows start to fill in and pop?

Not a fan of the yellow door. But, if you love it, that's all that matters! :-)

I think shutters look silly when they don't look at all functional. Plus
your brick is attractive and it's not like you have great expanses of
it to cover up. I like your windows and think the shutters
distract/detract from them.

Sorry your neighbors beat you to the black. But I don't think that pumpkin color does anything for the house. How about colonial blue or lime?

groveraxle - thanks for the suggestions and the pictures. I agree about the non-functionality of the shutter, but I don't really like the window either - the big expanse of glass isn't attractive to me. Maybe we just need to spend the money on a door style that I like rather than painting. I like the black but think it is overwhelming with just the half moon glass to break it up... Hmmmm.

The door you in your inspiration pic looks like a standard interior cross and bible door with the panels removed -- and perhaps replaced with screen.
