Often the panels are connected by hinges which allow you to stretch them out flat as shown in the headboard, or to bend them at the hinges as shown in the room divider. The panel headboard above is held in place by the weight of the bed. If you have individual panels, I suggest you secure each panel to the wall similarly to hanging a weighty mirror or piece of artwork using picture wire and hanging hooks.

Hi dhaues,

No those panels have always been white. They spent a few years outside which weathered them significantly. If you're looking for a weathered, aged look, I suggest using a lime wash which has a matte/chalky finish over your dark wood. Before painting it, you might want to put your screen outside in the sun and rain for a few weeks first before applying the paint. The weathering will open up the wood and impart character. It may also warp your panels slightly.
