I have always loved the look of exposed brick but am not a fan of the brick on the exterior of our house. However, we have a ton of brick left over after a patio extension. Would it look silly to put bricks on our fireplace wall to give it the exposed brick look but change the mortar to white with a light mortar smear to give it a different look from the exterior brick. Our brick is a pinkish grey. I have always felt that the exterior brick should match the interior brick.

Attached are pictures of the exterior brick, fireplace wall that I would add brick to, and what I hope it would look like with white mortar.

I would get a new fireplace mantel. The brick would be on the wall from floor to ceiling including the fireplace surround/hearth and angled wall on the left side of fireplace.
