Set, I am getting very busy at that time of the year. I have many garden chores, not only tomato ones. Food started to come in abundance. I have several summer squashes and several pounds of cucumbers waiting in refrigerator. I have to start canning again. Sigh.

I have painting project in the house and then I have to finish floors in both bedrooms.

My kids need their pool time and biking, fishing, hiking in the parks etc...

So I am beginning to feel very time stressed.

Antmary, same here. Canning cukes and making zucchini salsa. Have enough tomatoes to do gazpacho for eating and will start canning. My carrots are to die for this year. Hubby is tired to keep making lettuce smoothies... need to replant lettuce and cukes and zukes for second growth. Potatoes are coming... No house projects at this time of the year although we do have to go to a wedding.

Yeah, I know ! You have worked almost 4 months, germinating, potting, repotting, planting out, feeding , weeding, spraying ...Now is the time to pick and slice and just relax. Life is too short for a fast lunch !

Here is my BIG noise. The following is a picture of my first harvest. I could not accumulate more because they won't lass long..

A little contrast in color and size., from 1/4 of oz to 14 oz. But they all look good and taste yummy. It is a painting, it is a poetry to me. A little bragging here. hehe

Breaking down my old plants which should have been done many weeks ago, and bagging everything, cleaning, disinfecting, getting the last pittance of maters of most of the plants, and getting ready to play chief Ghostbuster.

Spraying down my hoop with hydrogen peroxide to make room for the virgin transplants in a tomato fungal heaven, which transplants are all ready as of today following a not so small accident with them in this very stressful time.

I'm certainly not ready for transplant. Forced to the gym to work out each day too which is just too much. That's so I don't have to track all the spores and tomato disease inside my place or shower.

It is 115 or so today so not much to talk about. Surprisingly, I still have a live tomato plant. I am enjoying everyone else's harvest pics.

Marianne, wow, it is still so hot there for you? Sounds like you are in Palm Desert or Yuma at this time of year. I wonder which one that variety is and how far into the heat it was able to give you some fresh tomatoes. Will you have any transplants going for any November fun?

I really enjoy some of the harvest pics being posted here, and you bet the gardens all look greener (and a lot redder) here in the forum :-) I guess it sounds funny to say that in the last 12 months I've had my tomatoes for all but for 3 weeks, but for example this season with 38 plants diddly squat was harvested in terms of production potential before heat, bugs and mold rip into everything each time provoking Lycopersicon exitus. The autumn season is extremely short and not really recognized as a season here. Autumn's "cooler" weather here is round the clock temperatures smack in the middle of mold growing heaven, and the season is just like yours with really bad humidity. If not for the shared optimism this wouldn't be fun, but I'm really looking forward to taking break as soon as these guys give me enough maters to ease the pain LOL.

Pupilla, I'm in Phoenix and not a suburb. The nice part is that it pretty much never freezes in my yard like it does in other areas of town.

My my surviving tomato plant is a volunteer from my compost that planted itself in an area where everything else scorches. I have no idea what it is but if it makes it to produce fruit, I'm saving the seeds. Also getting ready to build a raised bed to plant tomatoes in. They should be good from September to May.

Thanks for the pics of your pretty and photogenic tomatoes wormgirl :-) Momotaro (a.k.a., Tough Boy 93) is definitely an attractive hybrid tomato worth growing if yours is an indication! I'm so sorry to heat about the injury you suffered on your leg and hope the swim therapy will get it recovered as soon as you could hope for it. Swimming is a great thing to do instead of going back inside. On days the gym closes too early I work on my maters in my bathing suit and drive away sitting on a plastic sheet (Disposable ones free from Lowes) straight to the ocean from here, so any tomato leaf mold spores in my hair gets to drink salt and be washed out to sea!

Being outside to deal with the tomatoes has to be done later in the day, weekends or not, in spurts since heat indexes are over 100 for most of the afternoon and have often hit as high as 110-115, with the humidity adding the 10-12 degrees. I made a new "automatic watering system" 3 weeks ago and wow, the plants have suffered ... because I just don't care for them as much as when I was forced to come to them and do their watering. Add that to working under a plastic tunnel :-) How much to go to get at least the healthy knee back? Did your Big Rainbow get much red streaking inside?

Keep me posted on your new volunteer plant Marianne's Heats ... :-) a poor pun on Marianna's Peace, another nice heat resistant tomato I intended to grow but didn't survive a seedling accident a few days ago. Good luck with the the new raised bed as that sounds exciting, especially if you can take a picture of it filled with tomatoes under a Saguaro for us one of these days!

Jenn, that is a big bang ! I like that Big Rainbow. Mine are still green. But I have picked some Black from Tula and Azoychka and more smaller varieties.

PC, my Big Rainbows are getting nice and red inside. I've eaten two over the last two days. I only have a few, but they are really good! Too good to cook!

Below is Pineapple on the left (no traces of red! And totally globe shaped?!) Right is my first Big Rainbow shown above. Later ones have been redder.

After I am done with my fall clean up, I'll put the matter to rest for a good 4 months, w/out even thinking about the next season ( impossible ? !!). It is just too too far away and out for me. I have already decided/figured it out what to grow in 2016 season, in terms of # of varieties and plants. There will be a 50% slash over 2015 numbers. It is going to be a lazy, lean mean political season machine.

It is getting cold up here. Right now @ 2 am PST , it is 36F. Today's high will be 50F. Probably there will be no frost til after Thanksgiving.

I still have 5 tomatoes from the garden (keep sake). I picked them completely green, 2 weeks ago and they have ripened nicely on the counter. At least I have learned a valuable lesson from this : PICKING AT COLOR BREAK IS GUARANTEED THAT THEY WILL RIPEN PERFECTLY IN LESS THAN ONE WEEK, where 100% green ones ripen.

Last summer I lost quite a bit of nice big Brandy Boys to the Tree Rats. Definitely they attacked when they saw red color.

OK. Now that there is nothing to do, gardening wise, I have been working on my plans for 2016. I've got better than 90% of the seeds that I want.

Cutting / slashing back by 50%, compared to 2015, both in variety and number of plants. Too much work takes the fun out of gardening for me. New varieties always bring excitement. So this year I will grow about 6 of them.

INDIAN STRIPE, OLD GERMAN, GREEN COPIA, BLACK SEAMAN, SAKHARNYI ZHELTYI, BETTER BOY ... (maybe 1 or 2 more )

In short, gotta keep busy, at least mentally, until the spring arrives.

Seeds are saved and the hope is alive.

Most of us have no garden, it is snowing, freezing out there in the garden site. It will be months to start sowing/germinating .... winter blues are with us. But let us not to despair, springs always come.
