Photo upload problems

This is the only thing I found (by googling). Have I missed any other info on the topic?

I'm surprised and disappointed that houzz hasn't posted a message acknowledging the problem. The old Garden Web would have put something prominent on the forum page and reassured us that they were working on it.

    I haven't looked extensively but I think it's clearly a houzz problem.

After telling mondaly56 on Friday that Houzz was working out okay and I am on board, I am discouraged about the photo upload hassle that seems to be ignored. Anyone know how we contact Houzz with our concerns? On the link I posted above, they seem to be telling someone to clear cookies, cache, and history (which did not help apparently).

On the upper right hand side of the NE Gardening Forum page, there's a link to Garden Web News under the heading GardenWeb has joined Houzz!

Follow that link and you find My question isn't here. How can I ask for help?

There's a link to email them there <gardenweb@houzz.com>.

.They usually respond within a day. I've emailed them several times with mixed results. Mostly the response has been helpful.

To contact Houzz support by email: gardenweb@houzz.com (per the support page)

    There's also the suggestions forum.

I've seen a bunch of complaints on various forums about not being able to post photos or that the text and photos don't post in the desired arrangements, but I don't know if folks have emailed Houzz individually or with a list of threads where folks discussed the problems so I don't know how aware they are that there's even a problem.

I'll send a note to Houzz with a link to this thread, and perhaps if we list other threads where folks have noticed and commented on photo posting issues then they will have something to work with.

I'll start with this one on the perennials forum:

http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/3127376/combinations?n=32 had a posting issue on 7/21 around 2 am EDT.

And a couple from the New England forum: http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/3236899/birds-and-other-mobile-features-in-the-garden-2015-8?n=13 has several references to photos not posting as does the one below.

    http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/3150071/birds-and-other-mobile-features-in-the-garden-2015-7?n=76 starting last Saturday.

I know I've seen others, but can't remember where.

    Hi folks,

I'll see what I can find out.

    Thanks!

AHA! I hoped Tamara would be watching.

I heard last night that they are still working on the issue. You can upload photos to an Ideabook and link from that without any issues, so you may wish to do that until the bug is squashed. More info to come. Thanks for your patience!

I just encountered a problem trying to upload a photo. It was a photo that I had already resized for another website, so size was definitely NOT an issue. After about 7 edit attempts, it finally let me add the photo. It was one that was on my hard drive. It's the one in this thread:Here

I just posted this comment on the Birds and other mobile features in the garden 2015 #8 thread in response to Jane's question there.

    "I don't
want to have to upload to an ideabook and then link to that. The
ideabook would then be yet another online album which would have to be
maintained or just left as a cluttered file of photos.

I'm beginning to suspect that houzz is trying to coerce us into using
ideabooks and is just dragging their feet concerning resolving this
    issue."

    Claire

Ideabooks are a good idea if you're trying to collect inspiration pictures for a specific project, but they're not suited as a random collection of photos to post on this and other forums, IMO.

    Claire

I don't understand why this has not been addressed on GardenWeb News or some other broadcast message. No one is even saying what the problem is, only that "they are still working on the issue". Photo uploading has been easy and relatively problem free. If that is going away in favor of Ideabooks or other needless steps, it raises my concerns about why my images have to be collected in yet another place.

I am willing to believe it's just a coding issue since it's intermittent. They probably tweeked something last weekend, and it has caused some type of cascading issue. I for one am glad that I am not the techies responsible for finding and removing conflicting code. I am finding that sometimes I can't get photos up at all, sometimes GW will only let me add one photo per post, but on the Show us your Gardens thread I put in 6 or 8 without any issues other than the usual slow speed courtesy of my internet provider.

I hope that's it and they'll eventually resolve it. Your slow speed may help you - I find if I slow down myself and click very deliberately, I have better luck posting the photos.

    Claire

Well, it has not been intermittent for me. I haven't been able to post any photos without going through Ideabook.

I have worked with many terrific IT folks in my career and have great respect for them, so if they are working on coding issues perhaps they could just keep us informed.

On my Houzz profile page, I am seeing the following:

Profile Strength: Level 2 (out of 5 or 10 or ??). To improve my score they suggest:

    Profile Strength Tips:

    - Add 10+ photos to an ideabook

    - Post a design dilemma

    - Review a professional

    - Connect my Facebook account

It is not likely that I will be doing any of those things.

Just want them to tell us where we stand, and what's going on. Not bailing out yet, as I have told others not to bail.

"It is not likely that I will be doing any of those things." Me either. I'm with Jane down on level 1. I guess that means that all I've done is signed up.

What we don't need in our lives.....another arena in which to compete.

I'm a lowly level one also. But I haven't had difficulty posting pictures. I keep all my photos to publish in a folder on my desktop and just hit the Photo button on the bottom to post. No difficulties. I'm using a Macbook Pro and Google Chrome.

    Steve

I couldn't care less about my "level". I am here to exchange information and to give or receive help. I'm old now and I don't like change. I've just completed a course in curmudgeon 101 and I think I did well!

And another level 1 here too with little likelihood of upgrading unless they add a curmudgeon factor. I'm using a Macbook Pro with Firefox and I have difficulty posting photos.

    Claire

    It isn't us, it's houzz.

I'm Windows 8.1 with Chrome and Curmudgeons R Us.

I just tried to post a photo with Safari (I'm still using Safari) and I had no luck.

    Claire

I am neurotic. I blame myself for not even trying to upload photos to houzz.

I use Safari as well on a Macbook Pro and it's on and off. I haven't tried today.

    Here goes:

OK it worked for me first try (a two toned phlox that I'm fond of). Perhaps it's fixed or maybe it was the luck of the draw. If I do have problems with Houzz' photo uploader, I'll just go back to using my ftp space that comes free with my email account. I used to do that a lot with the old garden web, which would only allow a single photo to be directly uploaded to a post.

What bothers me more is that Houzz no longer allows you to use your own cover photo on your personal page. I don't want to use one of Houzz' generic stock photos; I want to use my own photo! Grrr! Fortunately I uploaded my own photo early on, while it was still allowed BUT I have a second elongated garden view that I had hoped to use alternately. It sure would be nice if Houzz would restore the "upload an image from your computer" function!

I just posted three pictures on another thread. The first two each posted on the second try; the third took more than five tries (I forgot to count).

    Claire

I just posted two pictures on another thread and both posted the first time. I think I posted yesterday too with no problems. I hope this means the problem is solved; if so, thanks Houzz!

Well, I was finally successful posting to the "show your gardens" thread just now. Hope that means we're back on track, but I still would like to know the cause and why Houzz didn't keep us informed...whether or not they were responsible.
