I have a couple of squash plants that seem to have no end to growing, zucchini, white scallop and crookneck. I started getting WPM and was trying to spray to keep it in check but it was not an easy chore as the plants are just too big to hit all leaves, etc... I decided to cut the leaves that had a lot of the WPM around the stem itself as to not expose the hollow interior. I was somewhat concerned that I may lose one or more of them but they all gave so much harvest already I was not concerned.

Well this morning when I went to water them, I could not believe the amount of new shoots and buds in just 24 hours. One crookneck looks so much healthier and has two small female buds.

Is this normal a normal reaction to pruning? Also, is there any danger to the overall plant by leaving the long stems if the inside is not exposed? The base of the plant is so large I could not possibly get all of the stem cut off anyway.
