Decorative Philosophy.... any suggestions for a gray color? Love your website.

We just painted the dark paneling in our master bedroom. We chose to not paint the trim, but it's a choice I regret. I'll be picking up another can of paint next week and wishing I'd done it already the first time.

I would paint the brick and the paneling. I have painting paneling several times and it went extremely well. They have special paint for brick and you would need to dust and vacuum well in the cracks before hand. I would paint the paneling grey, the fireplace white and the trim white. I would also beef up the trim by adding another board underneath it so it looks like a thicker crown moulding. A stained door is tricky to paint and would need to be sanded extremely well in advance and primed with a product like Kilz or an oil primer that can be sanded after priming and before the final 2 coats. I think that the window would look better with a new white shade. Home depot has an very inexpensive variety that you can push up and down with just your hand, no cords. It would be worth looking at as well! Good luck!

The beat thing about painting is that its cheap and easy to repaint if you don"t care for the first results. I don't think you can ruin a room by painting it.
