Sedum seed question...

Last Spring I planted approx. 700 Sedum (Golden Carpet) plants in my front flower bed. All the plants looked healthy, but all but a very few died in 2 months. Those few are now dead.

Today I sowed 25,000 Sedum seeds in the same bed. This bed has very good soil. I also mixed some cotton seed meal in the shaken container I used for sowing.

I'm in Zone 8. As I understand it Sedum requires little water, and grows in USDA Hardiness Zones 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. I misted water over the seeds, and I will do this as needed. So Sedum seeds have a snowball's chance of coming up?
