Both very similar systems. The Trane furnace is 2 stage var speed. The Bryant furnace is modulating var speed. I would give the Bryant system the edge especially since heating is more important than cooling. Keep in mind the Bryant furnace will require the Infinity controller, no substitute acceptable. The Trane furnace will require a 2 stage thermostat like the XL824. I would want a good quality pleated filter media cabinet. Ductwork should be evaluated for any hot/cold spots in home.

Furnace will be located in basement or crawl space?

Yes, trane I comes with the trane touchscreen Thermostat but I can choose a WiFi enabled two stage and they will install it for me, the bryant has to run with the connex thermostat.

I am leaning towards bryant for the fully modulating but I i give an edge to the trane guy becasue he was very thorough when going through what duct work and piping they would redo- i think the install would be better.

I agree about the XR13 being a better grade condenser than the Legacy model. However I factored in that the Bryant furnace is far superior to the XV95 and probably would provide better comfort in the longer heating season. Still you can not go wrong with either.

oh yeah and furnace will be in basement. both contractors have really good reputations. should I toss a coin?

If my decision, I have to go with the Bryant because of the furnace, your location, and longer heating season than cooling season. To get the job, I would ask Bryant dealer to upgrade to Preferrred Series Mdl 123a AC on his dime at no charge. And again, that Bryant furnace must have the Evolution controller.

yes its the evolution connex thermostat. ill ask about the A/C

would the A/C be a deal breaker?

Well, see what you can work out first. Tell dealer exactly what I said. If he says no, then ask him what the upgrade cost would be. Post back. Then I'll advise.

cant throw it in, it would be $500 more

not worth it since short AC cooling season...

deal breaker or still do furnace?

Unless there is missing information here, I still would go with the Bryant system. I will check the system configuration and make certain it is match. Reuse existing lineset? If so, it must be the correct size, close does not count.

    Lineset?

The copper lines that go from the AC condenser to the evaporator in the furnace.

I wouldn't call the AC a dealbreaker since you won't be using it that much. Paying $500 for a more efficient one will never pay back over it's lifetime.

For weed....not a more efficient one...both 13 SEER condensers but a grade series up, nicer cabinet, quieter, protective features, and more comparable to Trane's XR13 model...

    for Derek

i would ask Bryant dealer for matching AHRI number of system he quoted and if coil selection was best available. This is what I came up with.
