My well patinad marble

I dont know if this will be useful for anyone, or not, but I see many posts on here asking about marble and patina.

About 20 yrs ago, I bought a marble topped table from an antique store. My best guess from the wood of the table is that the marble had been in use for at least thirty years before that...maybe fifty years. I used the marble table (putting wheels on it) as a baking island for about a decade. Never worried about what I did on it. So, butter, oil, lemon juice, you name it, has been on this marble. Then, I left it outside for another decade (moved to a different house and didnt have a good place for ir). I brought it back in and put just the marble on my countertop about three months ago and have been using it again.

from top to bottom the swatches are Farrow and Ball All White, Wimborne White, Pointing, James White, Clunch, Shaded White and White Tie.

Humm. Ok, so I thought I knew what to do to get pictures in a post. I will try and add them to a response...

Well, that's character. Compared to my purchased-used marble table, that looks like the venerable grandmother, showing a lifetime of experience with every wrinkle. I can't help it, marble makes me wax poetic. Give it a big hug for me. ;)

Oh, and the holes and bolts and things you see were from when it was bolted to the old table.

Cool, it looks like its seen a lifetime of work! I would love that, my husband, not so much. He's a bit OCD.....and I am not. :)

I love it. And since it's already "dinged", who cares what else you do with it. Sorry I can't help with paint color. I don't think I have a good enough eye for color to advise on that.

I guess that's the ultimate "marble test." I know, looking at that, that I am definitely not a marble person. I already knew that, but it's good to confirm because the beautiful marble countertops are always calling my name. But, no, I am NOT a marble person.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were asking for help with colors (which I'm not good at either.) Is the paint for cabinets? Walls?

Sorry for the confusion! The swatches are for reference only, since monitors can change color so much. In case anyone wondered just how dark the marble could get...

I love it, too. Ironically, that is one reason I am leaning away from marble when my kitchen reno gets to the stage of choosing countertops: I know new marble wont look like this fabulously patina. :-(
