2015 August Block Lotto

Welcome to the AUGUST Block Lotto!

The lotto is open to all, and new quilters are encouraged to participate. You will learn much and have fun doing it. Typically, the winner receives enough blocks to complete a nice size quilt. It could be YOU!

Here's the drill:

- you can send 1, 2 or 3 blocks

- all blocks must measure 12.5inches x 12.5inches with no more than 1/4" variation please. With your blocks include name, mailing address, forum name and $1 to cover postage for the winning blocks

- if possible, either attach your name to the back of each block or write your name in the seam allowance with a fabric pen so the winner knows who made the block (this is not a requirement, just a request)

- all blocks received by the last day of the month will be included in the lotto drawing

- you will have 1, 2 or 3 chances to win, depending on how many blocks you've sent in.

- Be sure to post here that you are sending blocks so Linda will keep her eyes open for your package!

Blocks are to be mailed to Linda. She will arrange the collection and dispersal to the winner. If you need her mailing address, you may request it by sending her a message at linda at schultz-assoc.com

AUGUST Bear Paw - 12-1/2" Block Kona black and batiks (use only one color batik per block) Because blacks vary so much, (warm and cool tones), please use KONA black so all of the squares will go well together. (Most JoAnns and Hobby Lobby stores carry Kona cotton.)

I got three today from Patty in Florida. This sure is going to be a striking quilt. Thanks, Patty.

Finished my blocks today and will get them into the mail on Monday when I decide which ones to send. This was a fun block and I love the contrast with the black. The pattern will definitely be in my arsenal of go-to's. I took 2 photos - one straight on and one with an on point setting which I think I like the best.

These are beautiful blocks. Don't know if family life will allow me to tackle this month or not...I have the fabric; not so much the time!! But...I will try.

I thought the cutting actually took more time than the piecing. It went together really nice once I got that 1/4" foot for my machine. A world of difference!

Have added 3 more from Nancy in Kansas. Thanks, Nancy.

I don't think I have time this month to participate, but I must say...these are striking!

3 more are on the way from me. They just went out in the mail today. This combo of batiks with the black is beautiful!

Just mailed off 3 for August and some for the future. You should have them by end of next week at the latest.

I don't see a link to a particular pattern, so are these measurements OK? http://delawarequilts.com/BOMs/BearsPaw/index.html

That's the pattern I used, but, if you do a quarter inch seam on them, mine only came out to be 12". I made the seams just a bit smaller (hardly even noticeable) it makes the block a perfect 12.5.

When you click on "Bear Paw", it takes you to the pattern. Yes, it is the Delaware quilts pattern. Glad you figured it out - I usually make my seams a little smaller than 1/4" -- especially if there are a lot of them. Thanks for participating!

I wish links were more visible on this site. Light green just doesn't do it for me.

Hi! I'd like to submit a block for this months lotto. Is Linda's contact info an engineering site? I don't want to leave a note and have them think I'm a crazy crafter! (Jury is still out on that one, husband included!)! Thanks for any help, it's good to be sewing again.

No - not an engineering site - you are good to contact her there! Beautiful block!!

Thanks! That's so encouraging to me. I've been away from sewing for 2 years for medical reasons (been lurking all this time). But I'm back at my machine and loving it!

My e-mail is actually through an engineering company of ours but it's the only e-mail I have. So just send messages as usual.

I received a windfall today, two packages of blocks. Our new quilter in New Mexico sent her three and Linda in Texas not only sent 3 but sent blocks for the rest of the year. So, I have quite a pile growing here. And, Carol says she's sending some as well. This will be a colorful quilt.

My block went in the mail today!

sadly, I cannot do them this month.

My block is half done. I would be happy to mail it on Monday if you wanted to wait for it, but I understand if you don't. Either way I will go finish it now. Let me know if I should mail it on Monday.

Oops, I'll also need Linda's address. I don't see it on her page, but I'm not that up with things since we switched to Houzz.

    Oops, I see it. Thanks.

I have one block and DH just took it to the PO. Thanks.

And with a couple of blocks still in transit, we'll put off our drawing till the last arrives. This will be a big pile, ladies. Good luck.

    WooHooo!! Beaaautiful blocks, Linda!! Congrats!

Wow! Thanks to all that made blocks for August. I'm so excited and look forward to working with them to see what develops. YeHaw!

Congratulations, Linda. Have fun with these exciting blocks.

    Lucky Linda! Congratulations!

Congrats, you are going to have a beautiful quilt. Linda, don't worry about the block. My current favorite saying is, "It is what it is." Making it was a good diversion from all that has been going on in my life the last five months.

Maybe Linda will win next month, too, and you can include it then. LOL

Linda, Be sure to get pictures. Lucky you!

Congrats Linda! It's going to be a beautiful quilt!
