"Glechoma hederacea", aka Ground Ivy, Creeping Charlie, Gill Over the Ground, is a persistent plant that evolved in shady, moist soil conditions but has adapted to almost any today. However, these plants are still kind of sensitive to, and have difficulty growing in, soils that are very good for most turf grasses, a soil pH between 6.2 and 7.0 and is not mostly damp. Adjusting the soil is one method of control, but that does require a good reliable soil test.

"Glechoma hederacea" is an early spring flower produce and is considered one of the early spring sources of food for our pollinators.

When it blooms, the lawn will be purple, much more pretty than a plain green lawn! Unfortunately the flowers don't last long, but that just makes the show that much more special. Usually blooms here before some lawns are mowed the first time, then just kind of disappears again until next spring.

I never saw this bloom. It smells 'minty' when I cut the leaves. Smells nice to cut but its creeping all over my lawn.

It may be better suited to the conditions than the grass.

Huh? Triclopyr is a selective, and is non-injurous for all but a few cool-season lawn grasses. (this weed is unlikely to be in warm season areas) I've used triclopyr to get huge colonies of charlie under control in my yard, and it hasn't harmed my fescue/blue grass/poa trivialis mix at all.
