I realize the I may not have stated my problem correctly after getting good information about hanging the lights. I don't know what the listed measurements of possible fixtures is referring to. If it says 74" depth - what is the depth of a fixture?

It has been my experience that different manufacturers use different terminology (which makes things pretty darn confusing sometimes!). Depth of a light fixture can sometimes reference how far the hardware goes into the ceiling. But, I don't think this is the case with 74"! My guess would be that it is referencing the total length of the pendant, with the chain fully extended. So, from the ceiling to the bottom of the pendant light is 74".

I agree with Pegasus--it sounds like they might mean the length of the fixture and maybe accidentally transposed that number into the depth column when entering the data. (It happens!)

Thank you all. I think you are correct about length and it may be that I was looking at single pendants that were adaptable to cathedral ceilings. I have noted a number of designs where single pendants are being hung from loft ceilings. i.e. 74" or 6'+.
