Maybe post where you're located and you might find a contractor who can build it send you a message. Backlit onyx is pretty stunning when it's done well. Make sure you get a lot of punch with the backlight. Good Luck!

how do you make the effect look so even?

The evenness has to do with the type of backlight we used. We use LED light sheets that were custom made to fit behind the onyx. I believe we had a 2" gap behind, which for this source, worked really well. LED light sheets are pretty pricey so if you have depth behind an onyx slab, you could do other sources like LED tapelight or fluorescent. The key is getting far enough behind the piece that the lamp-imaging goes away. Onyx and most other translucent materials behave in very different ways from piece to piece. The best way I've found to make it even is to use these light sheets or if you don't have the budget for that, mock up the LED tapelight or fluorescent versions.

How thick is the Onyx?

If I remember correctly it was either 3/4" or 1" thick.

This was through a tile dealer in nj.....elite tile. Their pricing for a 48" x 60" backlit onyx was quoted to us as $2500 plus $1000 for S&H. That is definitely way more expensive than real onyx and nowhere near the "30-40% price of onyx" that they are advertising

We tried contacting the customer service of this company as well, but they do not talk to regular customers/homeowners like us. So that was a waste of time as well.

We also contacted www. Nu-wo.com; their company phones are not working. however , in response to our email to this company, we got a response back from a customer rep supposedly " working out of NYC" who emailed us a quote, but only wanted full payment via money order prior to delivery of the item.

This sounded extremely fishy to us----so we abandoned the efforts completely.

At the present, we are looking for a reasonable tile installer who can install a backlit green onyx.

I just put the post in, so potential customers would be aware of issues with these 2 companies.
