If you haven't already, I'd do a search on here for marble showers. Many people, but not all, seem to have problems with marble in showers.

You can definitely mix marble and granite in your bathroom and the two you've chosen go well together. However, like crl_ said, you need to understand what will happen when you put marble in a wet/dirty area. Marble is a very porous stone. Without a lot of babying, it's not going to look nice for very long. Your best bet is to pair the granite with a marble-look porcelain tile. You'll get the same appearance and much better longevity.

This is what I did....found a granite stone that looks like marble (super white granite), and then did emser tile Bianca glazed porcelain.

Thank you for the replies crl_, jewelisfabulous, and tsth5236. All very good advice! I have done extensive research on marble in bathrooms. And I'm prepared to fuss and baby it as needed :) plus I understand with marble, there will be some changes and etching over time regardless of annual sealings and much fussing. To really enjoy marble for the long haul, I believe you have to be one that enjoys the changes that occur over time. Not everyone sees these changes as visually appealing. But I find the rustic etching and natural patina very beautiful. Just a personal preference I suppose. So I'm ok with that and won't expect it to look exactly the same as it did when it was brand new. The good news is that our children are all grown now, and all but our youngest daughter (18) is out on they're own. So we shouldn't have to worry about stains too much. I'm just a huge fan of natural marble, and for our bathrooms, I really want the real thing. I have however seen some very beautiful marle look type porcelain tiles. Amazing how realistic they can make them now..and have given it consideration. And If my kids were still younger, I'd probably go with that option hands down! But at this time in my life, I've already made many sacrifices (like driving a mini-van :-/) and feel it's definitely time to have a few things the way I've always wanted. It's my turn!! Lol We will be remodeling our kitchen next year, and for those countertops, I will most likely go with a different material that isn't as porous, but still has some marble type characteristics. There are such great options now, and for the kitchen (I cook ALOT of Italian food) I won't want the worry and maintenance of real marble. For me that's a room that's a whole different animal! But I so appreciate everyone's comments and advice, as I felt I needed some opinions of other DIY'ers/Home decor enthusiasts on mixing these different stones together, and whether or not anyone else felt the colors blend well. As stated earlier, I can't seem to find any pics of granite and marble both in the same bathroom (had me wondering if there was some sort of design rule I had missed) and want to be sure it's not going to look funky once completed. Very happy to hear you all like these colors together. So nice to get input from others! So thank you all again! And If possible tsth5236, I would really love to see pictures of your mix of granite and Bianca glazed porcelain!

So glad for this conversation, I have the same question. Vanity top same as first post and want to do shower in marble - wasn't sure if it was huge no-no. It looks great with samples and I shopped for stone white look and marble tile looks the best. Floors are wood tile. Definately using porceline marble though :)) because of price as well preference for matt finish as upposed to shiny and slippery. Natural is always best for fabulous look I know!

I've used the white stone tile pictured here tsth5236 in another bathroom for floor, walls and shower and I LOVE that tile! It's an emser tile, not slippery. I can do my whole house in it it's so beautiful! I've used another color in same tile in previous house bathroom also. Anyway, here I go, mixing my granite top vanity with marble look alike shower! I think that combining granite and marble in the same room will look "off" unless there is a big contrast, such as a very dark granite with a light marble.

In my first kitchen remodel, I wanted a marble baking counter (for rolling out dough), but Mont Blanc quartzite (natural stone, not engineered quartz) on all the other counters. The two countertops were close in color, but did not work together. When I remodeled the same kitchen, three years later, I gave up the marble baking counter in favor of a more uniform look.

One combination that works well (if you want marble and like a Mediterranean look) is to combine Calacatta marble with Emperadora marble. Another combination that works, aesthetically, is a white marble with a soapstone or a black granite countertop.

"Super white" is closer to marble than granite; i.e., it looks like marble because that's what is.

tsth5236, Can I ask where you got the vanity top? What is pattern called. I love the matching pulls.

Totally doable to mix granite and marble in your bathroom, especially when the stones complement each other, like your granite and Bianco marble. However, as others have mentioned, marble is more porous and requires extra care, especially in wet areas.
