I just googled Cedrus deodara and the photos are of green conifers, not yellow. ?

Hence "One of many yellow forms".

LOL...I just googled "yellow cedrus deodara" and I see photos of yellow conifers, not green.

It is Cedrus deodara 'Gold Cascade'. The photo is taken at Oregon Garden, Silverton Oregon. =)

Unfortunately it won't survive in your climate =( sorry for the let down. There are many other great gold conifers that will survive in zone 5 though.

Would you be able to suggest some?

I'll jump in:

Picea omorika 'Aurea'

Picea abies 'Aurea Jakobsen'

Picea orientalis 'Skylands' and 'Gowdy Gold' (these need shade cloth screening for a few seasons and then shade cloth/shade screen can be removed permanently.

I'm sure there are a lot more. I'm kind of out of the loop these-days.

Thanks Dax. 'Skylands' is a must, ooh, and my favorite Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Ogon' AKA 'Gold Rush'.

Pinus parviflora 'Tenysu-kazu' AKA 'Goldilocks' is one on my wish list.

Picea abies 'Gold Drift' - A weeper that needs to be staked for height.

Juniperus horizontalis 'Lime Glow' - My favorite low spreading juniper. It turns a nice orange pink-ish color in winter.

Depends on what kind of form, foliage, and growth rate you like. There are so many to list. =)

Dax and Garen, would those conifers that you suggested be okay for zone 4? I am a zone 5 in Canada but I understand that to be a 4 in the U.S. zone system.

I purchased Picea orientalis 'Sulphur Flush' today as I like the colour contrast and also a Picea orientalis 'Aureospicata' and Pinus koraiensis 'Morris Blue'.

Oh boy those are some great selections. Those are all rated zone 4 so enjoy your new friends. I believe the 'Sulphur Flush' will need some afternoon shade protection. White tissue will burn in full sun.

Thanks for the tip. I read that if it is in the sun the tips are yellow and if it is in the shade, then they are white. I purchased a Whipcord, too and will give that afternoon shade as well.

and a Thuja occidentalis 'Sunkist' :) fun day

Yes, you bought some great-great-great spruces and a Korean pine. Whipcord and Sunkist are good to go to.

Good for you, Paula.
