Hi there!

We are in a 100 year old building in Logan Square, Chicago. A few photos attached. We plan to make our new home fresh, modern, while preserving its great historic elements. We already know we want to paint the walls a light grey or blue tone, with similar light colors in the bedrooms. We will also change the backsplash to better match the counters.

Our first design dilemma is whether to 1) preserve the classical wood moldings around the doors and windows 2) paint over them entirely with fresh white paint, or 3) do some combination of the two.

Here are some designs we like, causing us to lean toward 2). However, the building has such beautiful old doors and trim moldings that it seems silly to paint it all over. So we're wondering if there is a happily middle ground with 3).
