If you do that, then ditch the tile on the floor and backsplash too. It's a gut job. They aren't salvageable. Or, you shouldn't make the attempt to salvage them.

I agree with the hardware suggestion and don't install then at an angle it adds confusion ti the room. A dark granite would add some contrast and distract from the floor stay away from yellow whites of any color with yellow in it.

Frankly, I would paint over the goldish faux finish on the walls before I painted the cabinets - the walls seem to bring down the whole kitchen -- that, and the angled cabinet hardware...

I agree with hapagrrl - paint the walls. Too much beige. 2nd, don't angle the handles. It's the first thing I noticed, and it looks contrived. In some instances, "traditional" works best. There's no reason why you can't paint the bottom cabinets a different color from the uppers. You need an island. Something that looks like a piece of furniture, not just a built island. I'll look for some photos.

Once you fix the angled hardware, you will have holes to fill, and cabinets that are twenty years older than the floors, but with straight handles.I'd paint them black to disguise the exposed hinges, perhaps switch the small uppers to glass (lit) or open to break up the mass, and re-use the handles, as is, on the remaining doors. Keep the counter, add under-cabinet lighting, paint the walls the beige of your wall tile, and paint the trimwork and entrance gloss black. That should put everything into the same decade.

I'm not suggesting any of these colors, but it certainly provides design interest and breaks up the monotony of all the same color. Some doors could be replaced with glass-front doors. Consider knobs in some locations: fingers brushing against the paint to grasp a handle eventually shows as a wear pattern on high-use doors/drawers.

Unless you have a large kitchen, if at least one with a lot of natural light, I would stay away from such a dark wall color. I agree with another post about the floor. If you can replace it, I think the tile that looks like wood flooring is cool and may look good in your kitchen. That's something you can take a look at. If you want to go dark, do it on the floor and countertops, not the wall. The back splash should be fairly inexpensive to replace, and should be on the more "modern" look. With your stainless steel appliances going with a subway tile, or a multicolored glass ( small mosaic that comes on netting) would look nice. The cabinets could be painted a nice neutral color, a grey with brown undertones, new modern door handles. You might be able to save them and put the $$ in your countertops. If you do paint your cabinets, keep the walls neutral. A contrast is needed, if you change the other things,you don't want a monochromatic look that will make it appear flat with no dimension. You know what I mean? Oh and unless you are a superior painter I would spend the money to gave your cabinets painted by a professional. : ) you can always Google small kitchens and check out photos just to see what colors are used, to give ideas. I do that for a lot of different things. If the rest of your house is brown/tan/ other colors then use something in your kitchen that will go along with. Good luck!!
