I LOVE love love marble tiles, especially in a 3" x 12" herringbone pattern, but am torn between beauty and maintenance. My foyer is quite small and dark, so I know I want a polished, light flooring, but am afraid of all this "upkeep" I keep hearing about. I know I've seen old marble floors in 100+ year old schools, gov. buildings, etc and it's gorgeous. Could I expect the same wear? I am aware of sealers being needed every year, and keeping acids away, but are there any other measures needed to maintain the floors? I also live in Michigan, where road salt is a fact of life 3 months of every year. How would it affect the stone? Did you install marble, and how has it aged? tia!
