The new backsplash is better but not quite there. The accent strip is too dark. I like the look you're going for but I would not trim out the accent with the sticking out piece. It should all be flat. You could look for something like you selected but lighter and fresher. Do you like aquamarine with ochre accents?

As you can see, opinions vary. Greatly. Someone suggested your cabinets were modern. They look uber traditional to me because they are 1) painted and 2) have a raised center panel.That cabinet style can be taken many different directions, including "an interesting juxtaposition with ultra modern furniture".

Before giving an opinion on whether the table will work, I would want to know what's going on in the rest of the house. If you are going for farmhouse style in your kitchen, the table will work. In which case, the granite as shown won't and neither will any of the back splash choices so far. Style clash.

If you have go with one of the granite options, I agree that Uba Tuba would work best with the look if it is farmhouse style you're going for. Its texture and personality are not nearly as obvious because it is dark and has very little contrast, plus it would tie in with a dark floor.

Someone suggested cream, plain tile. I would second that as they would
tie in to the cabinet colour and give you much, much greater latitude
for wall colour possibilities now and forever. DO NOT try to pick a coordinating patterned tile for the back splash. That way lies madness. Let the counter tops be the star. And final word of caution: Avoid glass finger tile mosaic at all costs. They will date in a heart beat. Plus, their look is so far away from farmhouse style, it's on the other end of the continuum. Even if you're not going for farmhouse style, the trendy glass tile is still going to date.

Modern rustic with a transitional twist? Your home is beautiful as is the kitchen space. Is that your choice of chandi or is it the builders? It will be a pleasure eating at the table and looking out. The cabinets are a lovely, traditional choice, though not really rustic. Your table choice will blend well. Once you nail down the granite, you may want to consider how a round table might work as well as the rectangle.

The countertop and contrasting backsplash are, individually and even more so together, a bit "busy" for my taste. I, personally, don't think the two match or go that well with your cabinets. I'd choose one pattern or the other and pick from it a solid color (preferably the lightest one) to use as a backsplash.

Consider going with only an older style 4" backsplash and painted walls onto which you can hang your favorite trivets or other kitchen/dining art.

Have you considered something with a more "wood" look pattern and/or coloring to it (tan or very light brown would go good with the cream colored cabinets and continue the comfortable feel of wood from the dining area.

Great pic's as they tell us more of what your style is. Beautiful house. I'd recommend that you 1st need to get to the granite yard and see those slabs in person. Pick out your granite before you do anything or consider anything else as selecting the other items will be much easier to do once you have done this. I fully believe you will know what granite you will go with once you see the slab in person. 2nd, when selecting the back splash pick a few that you are drawn to right away (don't over think it and don't worry about will it to be out of style as when and IF it does, you will probably be ready to do the kitchen over or have sold the house. Post those with the granite so we can all weigh in with our opinions if you still need help. Regarding the table: this will probably be better addressed once you have your selections on the kitchen done. That being said, the first photo is what you are drawn to so let's see how you can pull it all together. I think the issue is going to be the chandelier shown in your dining/kitchen photo which is more traditional. I'm thinking something more like this. There are similar ones out there at less $$'s and probably for your space one that is a bit smaller. I just had this photo handy. If you want to keep the chandelier than your better option for a table would lean to being a bit more traditional (maybe with some distressed to give it that rustic style) with a more modern chair, such as a simple parson's style, which we can explore once the kitchen is figured out.

Seeing your space, I think the table works well, but maybe work on the chairs. I'd go modern there. Or go modern with the table and chairs.

Your original table choice sat 4 . Is 4 enough or would you like a table that would sit more? Providing you have the room for a larger table. If larger how large a table could you go with?

No we just really would like to pick the ebony stain for the floors .. House isn't finished yet and the builder hasn't asked us which stain yet . Floor is red oak

With you cabinets and tops, a dark floor is probably the way to go. If you are going with dark floors, you want your table to be lighter. It does't have to be as like as your cabs, although it could be. But it needs to show up on the dark floors. If you go dark table and dark floors its not going to show well with your cabs. Lighter = happier.

I know I'm just getting to the party but I liked the first granite better. I think we have some repair work to do now. Blending. That said, I would definitely go with Ebony stain on the floors. As the Grey/Black Granite seems to scream 'Hello", I think you should consider going bold on the backsplash. Incorporate something with a stainless steel, edgy vibe to give it a Modern twist. Also I like the original table you chose but agree with some of the others that a cleaner more modern chair would play off of all of the more traditional items you have selected. Hi, trying to catch up and read all of your posts? You have many dilemmas posted about colors, chairs, tables, floors, backsplash, couches, paint.
First of all have you moved in or is this home under construction.
Have you come up with an overall design plan? I think you said in one of your posts, you like country rustic?
You seem to be doing this a little piecemeal and getting lots of varying opinions on all of your various posts.
What have you purchased/ chosen so far? Is you kitchen family room open? What is your budget. It's very hard to suggest options if we don't have budget, room dimensions and your overall plan.

Excellent new choice of table and chairs ;) I assume your last 2 photo post are your new chairs that you have selected? The 1st ones at the beginning of the post would work, too. Tables and chairs are perfect with everything you have already chosen- kitchen, chandelier, wainscoting, etc..

Are you set on ebony or just want a dark stain for the floors? Are you tied into the ebony somewhat because of what you got going on in your other rooms that will have this floor, too? Keep in mind, the darker you go the easier it will be to see every scratch and ding so you have to decide if that will be an issue for you. Id' revisit the houzz site and look at the dark stain floors in the kitchens and see if you are drawn to another dark stain color, and if you like a bit of contrast or do you keep circling back to the ebony. Some builders have a stain guy that can do custom stain so you might ask your builder if that is possible. That way you don't have to rely on what is on the shelf. Any way you go, ask the builder to make up samples before you decide as the red in the red oak can add a color element to what color you chose. Have you selected the back splash yet?

I really like your Restoration Hardware table selection with beige chairs, but you have to have a light rug to make this work. The dark table on a light rug over those beautiful dark floors would be amazing.

If those last two photos you posted are the look and the feel you're going for, then stay true to what you really like.

In the next year I'll need to make the same table, chair and rug decisions you are making now with my own dark wood floors in my new house. Maybe I can use your finished room as my inspiration!

If you really want dark floors I think your original choice of table is better. Dark floors + dark table = too dark. Having had a home with dark wood floors, I can tell you that the dust shows (a lot!) and every mark as well. If you have or will have children & pets, you might want to consider something lighter. Then your dark table would be great.

Do you think your living rm chairs will be solid or pattern? If pattern, you may want to select the pattern 1st and then proceed picking out the sofa fabric. Otherwise, consider grey with a warm undertone as another option to your brown. Like those chairs with the nail head detail that you have selected for your table.

Ed this is not the way to design your house I'm afraid. You have about 6 threads going. What exactly are you deciding on now, the finishes? You haven't even finished building! Wait until you move in to choose furnishings. You need to get a plan, ifvyou ask 10 people if these chairs GO with this table, you will get 10 different answers. Really? Is this how you want to design your home? I highly suggest sitting down with a professional to help guide you through this process. Come up with a budget and a step by step plan! I'm afraid you are so confused now, you are going to make some critical design mistakes, which will cost you lots more than if you spent a little money up front and do it right.

Sandy- I'm guessing that if Ed wanted a designer, a designer would have been hired. This forum is to offer input and suggestions for those seeking it, not taking someone to task for the way that they have decided to select finishes and decorate their home.

I am suggesting he get some professional advice and help.
Houzz is full of design dilemmas and disasters, when people didn't want to spend the money it takes to come up with a plan.
Mistakes are very expensive to correct and often the OP is stuck with something they can't afford to fix.
On a new build there are so many decisions that have to be made and you can see he is very unclear.
It would be great for him to invest in a pro for some well deserved guidance.
I could never build a house without help and professional direction. I understand all of us are not on a huge budget, but with a professional he will get the best bang for his buck!
I am just suggesting he take his time and not buy all kinds of stuff before his house is even finished! What's the rush?
If he can't afford to furnish his home all at once, he could wait.

SancyC- The only reason I can think of that you think ED is very unclear as you have not read through the comments as ED has selected the granite, back splash, dining table and chairs in addition prior to posting, the cabinets, wainscoting, paint, chandelier, and more. And is now focused on the living rm. ED seems to be on a clearer path than when ED originally posted. And personally, I don't see any design disasters going on here- do you? Maybe you could never build a house without a designer but that is not the case for everyone. And since you don't know ED, you have no clue what their situation is regarding furnishing their home all at once and their budget. I like to think this forum is like bouncing ideas back and forth among friends over a cup of coffee. Sometimes that is all we need.

The dark floors with the dark table will be fine. Just like in the photos you posted. The table just wont pop, it will blend in but the light charis will give you some contrast.

You are very brave to undertake this project with a newborn baby, congratulations! May I ask where in the country in you are located? Not many 23 year olds in my neck of the woods could be building and fully furnishing a new house!

Love your kitchen so far,, but I would not be in such a rush to go out and buy furniture. If your price point is in tune with the RH table, there are oodles of choices out there. They tend to be overpriced for what you are getting. I have a large cement top table from RH for my backyard. I had to have them deliver three before I received one that wasn't damaged.
If you are near a design center in a major city go brouse through some showrooms. Sometimes they will let you in to look. They also have floor sample sales at the end of each season.
If you plan on doing upholstered chairs for you kitchen table, and it is open to the family room, you may want to choose your sofa first, perhaps in a neutral color then bring in color through your dining chairs and window treatments.

I am delighted to watch a 23 and 25 year old build and furnish their first home together. You seem to know exactly what you like and have great taste. Yes, this site is great for bouncing ideas around and you are getting lots of feed back.

Although I am much older that you two, I have found that after living in our new "furniture-less" home for 5 months, that I am glad I didn't rush out and buy new before I had an opportunity to see how the sun effects each room and to feel the space. Just remember, that part of the fun can be eating off a card table for a month while contemplating the best solution or what will really make the house yours rather than a catalog piece.

Sandy, in many areas of the country a beautiful home can be had for much less than 800k. Perhaps you are living in California? We all tend to be provincial in our thinking - that the pricing in our own backyard is what is the norm across the country.

Ha, when I lived in Canada, 40 years ago, people would say we were provincial in thinking, lol.
California is experiencing a huge upswing in the market with our tech boom. There is very little inventory and it is definitely a sellers market. I don't think I am provincial in thinking, just asking where a 23 year can afford to build and furnish a brand new home.
My kids all live in the area and their 2 bed, 1 bath homes start at 800k. We love living here, and of course there are great job opportunities for young people. It is very hard for young professionals to get in to the housing market. Houses sell for way over asking to investors and cash buyers.
It would be nice to have an idea of where the OP lives, that's all. I have seen lots of posts from young newly marrieds in Florida, Atlanta, North Carolina recently. These areas are much more affordable. Not as familiar with their markets as here in California, we are in the bus. but interested to hear other people's stories.

So what do you think of it so far? I think you made the right choice. Look how the natural light just bounces off of it and how much fresher & up-dated it looks compared to your original choice. Great job :) Looking forward to seeing if you stayed with the ebony or went with a different dark wood stain for the floors. Is the builder planning to repolish your granite considering it isn't covered and all those workman's tools are on it. If not, make sure the workmen haven't caused scratches in the granite so you can deal with the builder on it now, if necessary.
