Plenty of area rugs... Anything you add to the laminate = wasted money. Paint = bubble and peel inside of 1 month to 1 year. Could be even faster. I've seen these floors bubble and peel inside of 72 hours. Peel and stick tiles = wasted money (might give you 2 years before they begin to lift...again the laminate can bubble and peel underneath = ruined floor tiles).

Best way to "cheaply" spruce up the room = paint the walls. To freshen up a laminate floor means to remove and install something new.

A new floating floor = cheaper than concrete flooring. A vinyl plank floor would be a good option. Concrete flooring can be costly. They run from $5-$25/sf. An epoxy expert can help you if that is all you want to do. Most concrete slabs don't have the right concrete for "finished concrete flooring". They often have to be shot blasted, cleaned, new micro-topping applied and then epoxy applied over top.

It is possible to put epoxy directly over your slab...but that is a professional level of install. The surfaces of most slabs won't let epoxy bind properly = bubble and peel in a year or less. That's why the effort to shot blast needs to be made.
