OH OK, so there are a couple that are topical! I was kind of worried that his dog was not being treated for heart worms. Thanks for that link, I had googled it but didn't see anything useful.

I just discovered this product - Profender. The last time I picked up the Revolution for my cats (I've used that for the last 5yrs. or so), I mentioned that the mostly outdoor male still had evidence of a worm. Revolution doesn't kill all types of worms, so the vet suggested trying "Profender", a new topical med that kills many if not all types of worms, since I didn't have the stool sample. Doesn't prevent them, for instance if the cat continues to eat mice and other rodents, but kills the existing ones. I worried about putting both the Revolution and the Profender med on the skin at the same time but according to the vet it was okay. So I did. One tube cost me $24. There probably won't be a way to tell if the worms are under control until I take him in for his shots later this Fall and provide a stool sample.

Profender is not effective against Heartworms. There are numerous products effective for hook, round, and tape wormsin cats ... just like Profender.

Not to mention, the thread is about topical preventitives for Heartworm in DOGS. Profender is for CATS.

Well, excuse me. I apologize for skipping the heartworm reference in the OPs post. I just read "topical med for worms" and thought I'd mention the Profender because any topical wormer is news to me, regardless whether it is for dogs or cats.

Yes there is, Arkansas_girl. It is *revolution;* active ingredient is selamectin. I used it on my cat for many years, and use it on my dogs from Dec through March. The reason I do not use it in the warmer months is because it does not work as well against fleas as some of the other meds, and because it affords no tick protection.
